Usually, most of us aren't aware of how quickly time has passed until we look back over our shoulders.

If life were a 100 meter walking distance, we, of my generation, are all finding that the finish line is a lot closer than the starting line.

And the distance covered was done much more quickly than we would ever have thought.

Yes, we are getting older each day and one of these times we'll cross that finish line.

Fortunately, through pictures and copy, some of what happened from the 1950s through the 1970s in Taiwan has been preserved thanks to the thousands who have contributed to its history.

To end this fun-filled introduction, just enjoy these Taiwan military websites and blogs shown at the bottom of this page and return as often as you wish. These are for you.

Goodbye To The Mouseketeer
Of My Dreams

Tampa Bay Times, April 11, 2013
Yes, the sweet and lovely Annette has left us. We had a local chapter of The Annette Funicello Fan Club  at our school when we were 10 and in the fifth grade.

Meetings were held in my basement and a picture of this beautiful girl was in my wallet. You can guess who the president and unofficial corresponding secretary was.

Dan Ruth, who was just named a winner of the Pulitzer Prize poured out his heart and soul as he spoke for himself and millions of others in the article above.

It was impossible for her to make a mistake. She was perfect.

In the 1960s, Frankie Avalon made those beach movies with her. Annette was a woman and Frankie had his arms and hands full.

She was still leading a fairytale life when it was announced in 1992 that she contracted Multiple Sclerosis. She had begun showing symptoms of the disease in the mid- 1980s.

Annette's last public appearance was 1997, when this picture was taken. She had been in a coma for at least a year when she died.

THESE GUYS ARE PLANNING THEIR
 50th ANNIVERSARY TOUR!

Yes, The Rolling Stones have not gathered any moss. This picture was taken around 1963 when Keith Jones, shown here in front, was a guitarist and singer from the band's inception in 1962 until his death in 1969.

The band shown here produced many of the group's greatest hits. From L to R: Mick Jagger, Charlie Watts, Brian Jones, Bill Wyman??, Keith Richards

By 1975, Ron Wood joined the group and remains with them today. L To R: Watts, Jagger, Wood, Wyman??, Richards

You can't always get what you want, but these guys are certainly still trying. The original three members:  Watts, Richards, Jagger, with Wood at far right

The Greatest Hits Of The Vietnam War, 1965-1972

Being in the Armed Forces during the Vietnam War provided thousands of different experiences for millions of men and women who served.

Although we didn't all share rank, branch, and assignments, one major thing we all had in common was the music of our time.

In many different forms by many different artists, music was a freedom of choice that was unique to all of us.

The songs on these lists will not be favorites of us all, but there are certain songs that we associate with time, people, places and others links that hit us a certain way when we hear them.

My target group when beginning this blog was  Army STRATCOM folks who served in Taiwan within the time frame of 1965-1972.

Although that was the initial group, the blog has become much more expanded since it began in August of 2010.

As you stroll through the years, remember that for some, this was an escape and served as a connection with those back home.

Wikipedia was the source of these Billboard Top 100 hits you will see. Click on the RED letters. These are listed by sales, not by how many plays each record got.

So, our lines are open, and requests will be published. Just send an e-mail or leave a comment..
